I'm not a cabin type, so maybe I have no clue of proper, desert-style Miss Manners ettiqette. But I saw a trip report by the Sierra Club, Desert Peaks Section, which mentions a group of a dozen+ trekkers showing up at a cabin and finding it already occupied by a young couple. But no problem, the Sierra Clubbers just moved right on in, with the trip narrator's attitude being "tough luck, we're here now, scoot over. I'm sure they're sociable, group loving, herd-instict people like us."
That's phucked up. What ever happened to respecting one's privacy? People do this to me camping as well. Millions of acres and you have to camp right next to me, so close that you can smell my flatulence and hear my wife and I playing "hide the salami?" Go back to your campground!
