Yep my Nissan would pop the fuse from the lighter. Luckily it was a fuse. I now carry
a battery with me and recharge it with a solar
panel. It is handy for blowing up air beds and
such and with an inverter I can make those desert
frozen treats also. I have had good luck with the
truck air pump. They go on sale from time to time
for 30 to 40 bucks around here. Not as good as
the fancy air pumps but much better than the cheapies. Regarding the air pressure thing remember to have enough air to properly support
the vehicle or the side walls might get damaged.
Some of us carry alot of weight going into the
desert with water, spare gas and such. You can go
to the tire web sites and figure out how much air
you need to support the weight. I suppose you could push this a little if you go slow but it can't do your sidewalls any good with too little
air in them. Of course just driving on some of these roads is probably severe abuse by any measure regardless of air pressure.
