Hello to all. This my first posting on this site and I would like to thank Randy for the administration of it. I met Joel for the first time on a class with Emmit Harder and we all had a wonderful time in butte valley. His posts and articles are very interesting and I have missed not hearing from here on this site. I feel this is the best place for information on death valley and surrounding areas. Please stick around Joel, it's nice to hear from you.
On another note, I have stayed at the Panamint Springs campground 3 times and had a good time for the most part. On my second visit I made reservations for 5 nites for an rv site with full hookups. These reservations were made a few weeks ahead of time and upon arriving was informed that the generator had been acting up for weeks and power at the campsite was unavailable. It would have been nice if they had let me know of this ahead of time so I could have made arrangements to have a rental rv with a good generator in it. The generator in the rv I rented was having problems but I thought nothing of it since I would be at a site with power. But we made it thru the week and had fun with lots of trips to saline valley and a few spots in death valley proper.
A few weeks ago I made reservations for 2 nites at the campground. I arrived at 2:00 in the afternoon and ther restaurant was busy with motorcycles on a trip to Beatty Nevada. After making it to the cash register I was curtly informed that check in time was after 2:30. So we went back to the trailer and waited until after 3:30 to back and try again. The woman ahead of me was helped by a young girl at the cash register with checking in at the hotel and all went well. My turn was next and up came the same gentelman who told me earlier that check in time was after 2:30. This time he told me check in time was after 4:30. When I asked him about the time changing he said he could possibly help me If I got at the back of the line again (8 people in line this time).
I will admit the place was very busy, but friendlier people would be nice. Anyway I gave up and camped elsewhere and my credit card was charged anyway because I did not cancel reservations in time which I have no argument with. Just need friendly people please.
On the plus side it is a nice place to stay and will no doubt visit again but will probably check on during the week when not so busy.
Thanks again for this open forim and dont beat upon me too bad as I am a newbee
