Having taken the Fish and Ishim Canyon trails, I definetly agree it is worth a trip and a good alternative to Ballarat Road-- provided you are like me and have seen that little ghost town at least a dozen times and have almost. There are some incredible vistas on the Fish canyon trail.

I don't know if I would recommend airing down the tires however. While there is quite a debate within the off road community over this issue, I firmly believe you should not air down unless you absolutely have to in order to avoid getting stuck, or you are about to go through some deep sand. This issue has been discussed on this website before-- I know--- but I firmly believe airing down should never be done strictly for convience. On the Fish Canyon trail, it is not necessary to air down for passability. On the lava portion of the trail specifically, there are many "tire buster" rocks which will take advantage of weakened sidewalls.

I think Last Chance Rand is right on with his recommendation of taking it slow over the lava, and certainly BFG MTs, which I run, are some of the best tires on the market. On a sidenote, I have read great tech reports on Goodyear MTs as well.
