The head stamp S.L. 43 Would be from the St. Louis Ordanace Plant. {see the link} BTW, I wouldn't worry about picking up spent caseings off the ranges as long as they are SPENT. Meaning empty brass case, no bullet. I've found a flock of them in Goler Canyon over the years. I've also found parts of the disintegrateing belt links in the canyon. Tracers, they have a red tip, have been know to torch off in the process of seperating them from the case. Another question, I wonder what would happen to you or you vehicle if one of those empty casings, either a 50 cal. or a 20mm, where to hit you as it fell to earth?? That's one reason they are supposed to be in/on the range when the fire.
