My experience with altitude and GPS is that it seems to take much longer for the instrument to approach an accurate reading of altitude. In a couple of experiments after the 100m error was elminated accurate location came rapidly but altitude was much slower, but, in most cases, an accuracy of + or - 20feet was eventually achieved.
