While you are dogging on Trona, keep in mind a few facts:
1. Trona has everything a last-chance motor stop needs: A tavern with cold beer, a gas stop with good air, a convenience store with a burger stop close by and a city park with public toilets and a view.
2. While you're racing through town on your way to pay an entry fee at DVNP, you'll blast right by: 1) A mountain gap with sand dunes at the saddle (canyon behind the plant). 2) Several springs within an easy hike from the road (Great Falls Basin). 3) An easy road that terminates nearly at the Argus Range ridge (Homewood Canyon Road) 4) A challenging and historically rewarding alternative route to Goler Wash (Manly Pass with a detour into Fish Canyon) 5) A golf course with dirt fairways and greens of groomed sand
By the way, Trona's air may smell like alkali on occasion when there's an inversion layer; however, the air clarity and quality is among the best in California. Furthermore, there is never any smoke covering the entire town.
If you are a dedicated desert traveller, you have always appreciated Trona. If you live in a filthy city drinking bleached water and suffocating with the masses, you are just ignorant.
