You brought up a very good point about temperature measurement. The temperatures you see posted by the Weather Service are often quite different than what you see on your standard patio thermometer. The weather services uses a louvered enclosure to house the thermometer. Thus, free air flow and the thermometer is always in the shade. Also the thermometer is 6 feet off the ground. So if the weather service says that it is 110 and you are standing in the sun, the effect on your skin is definately higher than 110 and the sand under your feet is really hot.
