I'm not sure what the temperatures where when I was in Death Valley in July 2001, but it was well over 100F, possibly over 110F. At Ubehebe Crater, there was also quite a bit of wind, and I've been using the following image to relate the feeling to other people: imagine a giant hairdryer, pointed right at your face, and going full speed. That's pretty much how the heat and wind felt to me at the time.
Also, the laughably short hike to Zabriskie Point from the parking lot made me break out a sweat, and I was exhausted by the time I had reached the top. (At home, I'm training five times a week for athletics, so I'm in fairly good shape.)
You might also want to refer to my log entry for 31st July 2001, link below, which describes my first drive through Death Valley. (I'll be back there for the fourth time now in about two weeks.)
I'm not sure if all of this answers your question, though. :)
