The Echo Canyon road to the Inyo Mine is generally doable in a 2x4. There is one small spot at the point the canyon narrows at the mouth of the canyon that can cause chassis flex and lift a wheel, but not a problem with your Toyota.

Now to Schwab. There are two ways into Schwab townsite. It used to be an open road, but the Park Service has closed it. The best way to get into Schwab is to turn just below the Inyo Mine where the road goes over a low saddle into another branch of Echo Canyon. After crossing the saddle and when the road makes the bottom of the canyon, it will make a sudden turn back northeast. At this point, the old road takes off down the canyon, it blocked off. Park here and walk about a half mile into the townsite of Schwab. It is located at the point the canyon widens and a couple of other canyons confluence.

Remains are dim and subtle, but if you're a seasoned ghost town explorer you'll find numerous signs that people once lived here. Take a look at photos of Schwab (many books and magazine articles confuse the true Schwab with nearby Inyo Mine) at the link below.
