Amen to what the second Lewis said about going into old mines!

If you really must visit something, there are a couple I can think of that are open to entry and relatively safe.
One is Pete Aguereberry's Eureka Mine off Aguereberry Point Road. The park service has installed steel netting to prevent people from entering more than the first (safe) part. But this mine is blocked off with a steel door in the winter months because of hibernating bats.
The second is Burro Schmidt's Tunnel. This isn't in DV, but in the El Paso Mtns SW of Ridgecrest.
This is a 2200 ft tunnel through a mountain built by hand by one man over about 40 years.
