No, RiverRat, I think that the $100 million could have been better spent by concentrating on the primary dangers to the Mojave Desert Tortoise: 1. raven predation and 2. Upper Respiratory Tract Disease. If habitat preservation alone was a significant help, why has the tortoise population continued to decline? The bureaucrats have concentrated most of our money and their efforts on a single-minded and ignorant belief that by fencing off hundreds of thousands of acres of public land, this will somehow keep ravens out and cure the rampant respiratory desease. Land grabbing is the government's answer to everything lately, and now the GAO concurs. Please try to keep an open mind; or do you really believe that the primary reason for the Mojave Desert Tortoise's decline is the threat of being run over by OHVs and 4X4s?
