Gentlemen,

I'm confused. How have a few of you become such "experts" on the road and bridge's history?

As a founding member of The Friends of Briggs Camp, and one of the bridge's builders, I know the history! I know all about the year and a half of planning, and the 3 days of actual construction. I know the problems we had with The BLM, NPS, Inyo County, Federal law enforcement and environmentalists after it was completed. It was not easy to do..... any of it!

However, let's not forget, that was over 10 years now, and there's a "new Sheriff in town". In fact, by all accounts, there are several new sheriffs out there just looking for someone to do the wrong thing.

The road repairs are uncertain at this time. However, one thing is for sure, it's not going to be the same as it was with the bridge. Anyone unilaterally taking on this project will certainly face strong legal action by one or more of the sheriffs.

Additionally, unilateral action could jeopardize the access to the area and the unique programs that The BLM Ridgecrest Office is spearheading in the Panamints and elsewhere in their area of responsibility.

Rest assured, the road repair issue is proceeding at a pace that is consistent with its priority and controversy. Patience is prudent as well as a virtue.

Also, if anyone would like to know the "facts" regarding the bridge construction and the problems we had, feel free to drop me an E-mail.

Let's just all "throttle back" and let the process proceed.

Tom
