I remember borrowing my folks motorhome (gargantuan Winnebago with a 99 gallon gasoline capacity) and taking it to Yosemite and Sequoia. That little jaunt in 1988 cost me $800 in gasoline! Given for the cost of inflation, the current purchasing power of the dollar, and the slight break toward the water hazard on the 17th green, I'd say I would start balking at paying more than $1,000 in fuel for a week's trip to DV. Further considering that between towing my trailer to and from the park, and running around the park with no trailer in tow (still, considerable miles!) I average a little over 8 MPG for the entirety of my trip which average around 1,000 miles (300 to DV, 300 back home, and the balance running around the park).
Therefore, I'll stop vacationing in DV when gas hits about $8.33 per gallon. Until then, I hope to see you there.
