Just to further complicate matters, the argument has been made that the distance between any two points over any surface is infinite. This is because if you were to map your path over the surface, you would never reach a point where that surface could be deconstructed into smaller and smaller objects, which must all be traveled across.

The distance is infinite, though confined within a finite space.
