It has been a year of adjustments with Jody Stewart gone and her husband, Mike Patterson, and caretakers John & Roxie Bowden trying to work out their relationships and how they are going to manage the town now. Roxie felt it important that the friends and family be allowed to have a private celebration, at least on Thursday, if not the rest of the week. Remember Cerro Gordo is privately owned and is Mike's and John's and Roxie's home, as well as a historical ghost town. I was asked to get the word out so everyone would have a few moments of private celebration at least, just as you do in your home. Those of us as the Friends of Cerro Gordo, took it upon ourselves to keep the town open during the day and give tours on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, after all. It still allowed Mike & John and Roxie to have their privacy for the holiday weekend, and it allowed visitors to explore and learn about the history of this wonderful ghost town. Any money taken was generous donations for further restorations on the town. We had visitors all weekend and gladly took them around and told them the histories. We even invited one couple to come on in and have Thanksgiving dinner with us. When it started snowing and the mountain was in a pea-soup fog, we offered to let visitors stay as long as they deemed necesary as well.
