Roughing it at Furnace Creek

Just got back from a great weekend in Death Valley. We camped at Furnace Creek Campground and ate our meals at the nearby coffee shop and restraunt. The coffee shop was horrible for dinner, but the breakfast the next morning was fine. The service, as others have mentioned here, definitely left something to be desired. However, Saturday night at the restraunt next door, turned out to be quite nice.
Wouldn't you know it, after our soup and salad bar, we realized that dinner seemed to be taking an unusual time to get to us. Sharon came over with more drinks, and rolls, and apologized - there was a banquet going on and they had used up all of the baked potatoes for that! Knowing that we were ready to kill for baked poatoes, she had managed to make sure that they scrounged up some more and our extra wait for dinner was because of the extended time for cooking them.
After our dinner with the baked potatoes we had all craved, Sharon made sure the manager allowed her to knock off 20% on our bill, for our long wait, and she packed up free desserts for us to enjoy back at our campfire. I told her I would put in a good word for her on the Death Valley message board. If you happened to be in there and see her, say hi and thanks again for all she did, from the Pierce College Photojournalists!
Jerry, if we ever decide to base our group out of Panamint Springs...I'm sure you'll have plenty of baked potatoes waiting for all of us potato heads!
