I live in northern Owens Valley, but keep an apartment in Trona, since I work there. Been working there going on 16 years. Lived there 1987-92. My wife (we were married 1990) has lived there 1957-92.

Many have moved to Ridgecrest. Also, downsizing has taken its toll. There were nearly 1500 employees when I went to work there in 1987, now around 700. San Bernardino County has cut services. Bored kids and frustrated property owners burning down houses. There are a dozen burned out houses in my immediate neighborhood. Burned buildings don't get cleaned up, just sit. Eye sore. I hate to see it happen. Trona, as an industrial center, is not much to look at, but it was once prosperous and thriving. Now it's just another deteriorating industrial moonscape.
