Paul is also right about the effects of alchohol being counter-productive to staying warm. Although it makes you feel warm, alcohol -- even in moderate amounts -- has the immediate effect of dialating the capilaries in your skin (ever notice how that glass of wine or beer or two flushes your cheeks? ;-) This has the net effect of increasing the rate at which your body dissipates heat -- exactly what you are trying to prevent.

By the same token, the beanie idea would also prove to be quite effective as a person's head is responsible for the dissipation of what would seem to be a disproportional amount of body heat (as much as 50% of your body heat - maybe more - is lost through your head!). Covering up and insulating this seemingly small suface area goes a long way toward keeping your body warm at night.

Bundle up and stay warm out there! ;-)
