Since everyone is giving their opinions, here I go... The most important element to keeping warm in a tent is good insulation between your sleeping bag and the ground. I use a thermarest pad, and it works really well. On cold nights, I find sleeping on an extra blanket is more effective than covering up with the blanket. Sounds crazy, just like striping your clothes to stay warm, but it works for me. A gas heater in a tent is risky. I have always feared falling asleep and not waking up. I have used a candlelantern in my tent on especially cold nights. One candle in a small tent burning all night does rise the tempurature enough so you can feel it. I agree that a beanie is excellent too. I disagree that alcohol keeps you warm. I think that booze depresses your senses and you temporary feel warmer. Over a long period, liquor is counterproductive for your body's efforts to warm itself. Hot liquids and a high calorie snack is a better idea. Stay warm, MENDO PAUL
