Scotty's Castle is located in Grapevine Canyon in the north east portion of Death Valley proper. It was built in the late 1920's by Chicago financier, Albert Johnson and is named for Johnson's long-time friend and western legend, Walter "Death Valley Scotty" Scott. You can find a great deal more about Scotty's Castle by clicking here to visit the NPS web page dedicated to the subject.

Vern Batty (singer, songwriter) was born and raised in southern California, and began writing and performing music in the 1960s.

Vern currently resides in New Mexico and records for Desert Skies Music. His latest album, "A Wink is as Good as a Nod" is currently available for sale on his web site.

Oh yeah, and there's a little town called Beatty not far from Scotty's Castle, too.
