Sounds like you went up McIlvoy Canyon. Do not know who left the ropes. The canyon was used extensively by the Lone Pine bee keeper. Before he got a vehicle, he used to come over the top from Lone Pine to tend his bees. There is 6 or 7 water falls that he had to come down to get into Saline Valley. He made ladders out of wire and tree limbs. The remains of some of the ladders can be found well up the canyon. There are 3 or 4 cabins in the canyon. The upper ones are fairly well intact and still have some bee keeping equipment in them. The remains of the bottom cabin is about a hundred yards from the mouth of the canyon and about 50 yards north of the wash.
