Beside Crater Mt., S of Big Pine, there are several major lava flows nearby. There are what I call twin lava flows, large and very obvious, just south of Crater Mt.
One flow can be found on the west slope of the Inyo Range, the lowest lava is found at Owens River and the dam at Tinemaha Reservoir, less than a mile east of US395. This is easily picked out from travelers on the highway.
Its twin lava flow is found directly to the west, eminating from Red Mountain, a cone just south of Tinemaha Creek. This flow runs to US395.
There is a large flow just north of Goodale Creek, north of Aberdeen. The creek flows through it. The lava's source is a cone just below the base of the Sierra. Just south of Aberdeen are several smaller flows and a large one which has its southern end at Division Creek.
Volcanism is rampant in this area.
