From Lone Pine on 136 to 190 and then through Stovepipe Wells and on to Furnace Creek is a distance of about 100 miles. The total gain in altitude is about 9000 feet; the loss of altitude is about 12,700 feet for a total loss of around 3700 feet. From Baker on 127 to Death Valley Junction and then on to 190 to Furnace Creek is about 115 miles. The total gain in altitude is 4080 feet and a loss of 5220 for a total loss of about 1140 feet. Just reverse the numbers for a trip on either route going to Lone Pine or Baker from Furnace Creek. The numbers are approximate but should give a good idea of the difference between the two routes.
