The DVRR was founded and operated well after the turn of the 20th century. It was founded in 1916 as a short spur line between DV Junction and the Borax mining town of Ryan. The DVRR operated up until 1927 -- largely carrying tourists in its declining years. In spite of its name, it never actually entered Death Valley proper. And, of course, the Baldwin No. 2 engine now sits at the museum at Furnace Creek.
