I drove my stock '01 Jeep Gr Cherokee up South Park Canyon in late June. The section you're writing about was a short, steep climb through loose rocks and boulders on a ledge bypassing the wash. I did the loop alone, so I had to hang out the window to do my own "spotting", and also had to get out and relocate some of the rocks and boulders to make a route. Just past this spot, you can see the road branching north to Suitcase Mine. The South Park Canyon road continues East around a bend, then opens up about 3/4 mile from Briggs Camp. The "Chicken Rock" just west of the bridge is a little hairy, primarily due to eroding on the cliff edge. The bridge is no problem. I think it is better to descend Pleasant Canyon, because it is easier to work your way down the section where it is overgrown and the spring flow has cut up the boulder-strewn road. Threre are some big boulders in that section that require careful maneuvering. A few weeks earlier I rode my XR600 on the loop and had no problems. Too bad your clutch cable broke, Paul. You were almost past the worst part of the route up South Park Canyon!
