Go to the DV Home page and click on "Fire Restrictions (pfd)" under NEWS & NOTES.

I live in the high desert area and from my desk I look out to two fire scars that consumed most of the vegetation at the base of Mt. Tom, north of Bishop, California.

With today's technology (using propane and butane stoves) there is no rational reason for having camp fires to cook meals on. In the winter—and only in the winter—when I am car camping I sometimes bring a metal fire pan and presto logs (one is usually enough for an evening camp fire). Then before retireing, I drench the coals and in the morning I pack them in a can and bring them home.

A camp fire is an excellent metaphor for a chat page. When a devil wind blows a cinder into the grass, immediately extinguish it—thanks Randy. LeRoy
