In the 1893 "North American Fauna" book, T. S. Palmer (p.367) says: "A canon on the east slope of the Panamint Mountains ... [with] an Indian trail from Darwin to Furnace Creek, after crossing the Panamint Valley, ascends Wild Rose Canon and crosses the summit of the Panamint Mountains to the head of Death Valley Canon."

The trail probably exists as many Indian trails were used by prospectors (and improved [?] by them). Later in Palmer's place name book he said it is the "first canyon north of Hanaupah Canyon."

Good luck with your search. LeRoy
