The Stovepipe Wells hotels are the least expensive, but will still be pricey. The Furnace Creek Inn in truly "5-Star" and probably not for kids, but would be great for "that special get-away!" The Furnace Creek ranch is nice, but pricier than Stovepipe. The Panamint Springs Hotel is nice, the food is great, but is an hour drive from Stovepipe Wells. But, don't limit yourself to the artificial NP Boundary; the whole area is fantastic!! Also, don't forget Beatty, NV as a possible hotel spot. Go to Auto Club or library for tour books! !!!PLEASE!!! Unless you and your family are experienced backcountry desert hikers, DO NOT go hiking out in the backcountry--day or night--!!!! Keep to the Ranger/Naturalist guided tours and presentations. YOU CAN DIE REAL FAST OUT THERE!!!! Remember day and night temps at July will be hot and warm. Drink over a galon of water/person/day, and more: soda, milk, beer, etc don't count!!! Have fun! DD
