1. In my experience, national parks, not roads, bring more people to threatened places. Has anyone else noticed a huge increase in tourist numbers since the desert protection act? FY 2001 reported over 1,000,000 tourists. Sheesh, does anyone remember ten years ago when 600,000 tourists was alot for Death Valley? Ever since the desert protection act tourism is steadily rising. This is not an isolated thing, just look at Yosemite, Yellowstone, etc.
2. Once again, I ask, who needs dwindling habitats, a depletion of resources, and threatened species and habitats more: the Sierra Club or conservative off highway user groups?
3.Am I suggesting a republican dominated government would fare better for the environment? Of course! How many Sierra Club members live in Wyoming? Why would states like Alaska, Utah, Wyoming, and Idaho elect only republicans to the house and senate from the entire state? Is it because these states want all of their beautiful land and precious resources trashed forever?
Let's take a look at California. Conservative run California is smaller towns in the northern part of the state, and central valley, while liberals run the Los Angeles metroplex. One area has clear blue streams filled with trout, great wetlands and wildlife refuges teeming with ducks, acres upon acres of forests, and wonderful crisp air. The other gives me an asthma attack every time I breathe its air, is overrun with cars and industrial pollution, its local ponds and streams are filled with trash and garbage littered by its careless residents, and they are not clear at all. I guess the latter area is the one run by conservatives, huh?!
4. "The smog in L.a. didn't come from democrats or the republicans".
Well then who did it come from? Being a betting man, I'd put my bottom dollar that most of the 10 million people in L.A. with cars sure aren't republican!!!!!!
5. Is anyone out there so self-confident that they think they could run California deserts better than residents of Barstow, Lone Pine, Ridgecrest, etc from their apartment in San Francisco? Local control...
