Certainly, there are huge tracts where you can find plenty of solitude. Also true is that some popular spots are being beat into the dirt. As a hiker, I too have been disappointed by the anti-NPS views, but also encourged by reports of cabin maintenace groups. Good work!! And I really don't see what closing a 100 year old jeep trail to responsible users will achive. The "Wilderness" designation should not exclude "Leave No Trace" vehiclur use of long established roads. I believe that there is room in the backcountry for everyone who loves the backcountry.
