Death Valley started out as a mining district, and most of its colorful history is all about mining. If the intent of the National Park status is to educate the people about interesting places and their heritage, mining must be a central subject when it comes to Death Valley. Future prospecting in the park is banned by federal laws, so the enviornmental aspect of the mining issue is somewhat moot. Why not celebrate the true history of Death Valley? Would you rather just muse about the pupfish and other native flora and fauna? The beautiful and varied geology of the region is the primary reason most people visit the Park. That geology is engrained with mining history and must be recognized.
