The Great Understander

So after reading Harold's post on the Modoc thread below, I do a websearch and come across this book. And of all things it is available at the local library.
There are some very interesting tales. But I really doubt they all went down like he said. As in "based" on a true story. It has some interesting reading about towns like Lookout, Darwin, Panamint City, etc.
What say you Harold?
