I have done a little bit of reading and exploring of this area,
Modock was the Modock Mine, Lookout City was on top of Lookout Mountain.
The Modock mies wear also on top, but a lower tunnel was dug on the east of Lookout Mountain in order to intersect the mines on top of the mountain.
To the South and below is the Minnietta Mine, and in Thompson Canyon you will find the stone ruins of "Minnietta City" this is where the "Modock" post office was located. There are many stone structures and the wall of a stamp mill. The remaining cabin has been adopted and maintained by the "Friends of the Minnietta".
I had a chance to buy a "Modock" post marked cover, but $200.00 was a bit much.
