It is my experience that for professional GPS applications UTM's are the preferred coord system. I prefer UTM's as it is much easier to visualize the distance to a destination when given as meters rather than DMS. I know how far 10,000 meters is -- but how far is 2 Degrees, 16 Minutes and 34 Seconds?!?
