To some it is just a bunch of mountains out in the forbidden desert. For others, just a weekend retreat to find refuge from the callous city life. Others, places to take their new SUV's and to beat the hell out of them for they now own a 4x4. And to those few folks, a place of wonder and charm. For me, this is the most beautiful place on earth!

We all know of such places either in our heart or in our mind. Some call it paradise, home sweet home, or the true dream place. It is either real or visionary, known or unknown, a dream or a reality. An uninhabited tropical island in the deep blue waters of the Pacific Ocean. A country house surrounded by orchards of apple and other fruit-bearing trees. A town house over looking down town Paris with all of its glimmering lights and fake city life. The streets of San Francisco with all of its crime and pollutions. We all know of such of a place either in our mind or our dreams and with this real or unreal place - it brings us the calm we all seek.

But as I type this and I look out the cabin window to the valley floor below, the rugged mountains towering above, and feel the warm winds bellowing up from the valley floors below, I'll take the Panamint Mountains. The last rugged desert. The backdoor to Death Valley…
