Bob: You, sir, should do some research. The intent of the Constitutional framers was clear and is well documented on the subject. Having just overcome overwhelming odds and winning independence from the British Crown, our forefathers understood clearly that being armed was the only salvation for this infant country's new citizens. The second amendment was enacted specifically to address the threat of tyranny from within; not an invading foreign army. The standing military was called for in the Constitution to meet that threat; however, an out-of-control government (federal or state)could use its armies against its own citizens - therefore the importance of codifying this inalienable right of the people. I do concede that there are those irresponsible ones that abuse this right and endanger the public with repulsive acts. This behavior should immediately be referred to the sworn authorities, who will muster their own army to deal with it. In the meantime, we should all feel better that, while awaiting the cavalry, there surely will be responsible armed citizens that can attend to the matter and quash the disturbance. God Bless America.
