a history on death valley

im doing this big report on death valley. ive bee there 2 times, so i know alot about it, but i dont know the history behind it. all i know is that when the pioneers were comming to oregon, lots of animals died, so they called it the valley of death. but thats just how it was named, i need to know any type of history behind it. thanks a bunch!!!
