What is the best location / town for a small residence in close proximity to DV

Any thoughts and / or info on the small town of Darwin as a staging area for my treks through DV upon my retirement this year. ( 2nd home / small cabin - build or existing).I have located an interesting website about the town of Darwin but I would be interested in your comments about this selection as I live far from DV but manage to get ther 2-4 times a year for a week at a clip. I would also be interested in your thoughts on other areas close to DV that would provide a suitable place of residence (California / Nevada).Thanks in Advance. Fran.
