Michael Digonnet does a great job of addressing localized geology in his book "Hiking Death Valley: A guide to its natural wonders and mining past" (ISBN: 0965917800). The book is exceptionally well-organized with several hikes of varying intensities listed for areas throughout the park. Each hike is described in an organized fashion which addresses the topography, terrain, geology, flora, fauna, and archeological significance of the hike. Digonnet appears to be very thorough and well-rounded in his descriptions and knowledge of each of these disciplines. A very handy book to have on hand.
