Your account of the DEA connection is probably valid from what I have been told by locals in the Panamints several yeas ago. Very much tied to a certain party who's operation was near the strip. They were also the ones who blew the hole in the road down canyon to limit access to the area, thus requiring the bridge in South Park Canyon to be built. So for such a long time someone who does such an illegal act has their legacy remain, while the folks that put the bridge in to undo the act and help all of us almost get put in jail!
