I think I know where you are talking about and it's the railroad grade of the Las Vegas & Tonopah Railroad. The missing section on your map has been closed off by the Park Servive for restoration. We started at Rhyolite and followed it north to where it ends (on the map) and there NPS signs are posted. From there we took a road out to US 95 and then returned to Beatty. I'd call this a 4X4 road because where the old RR bridges are gone you have to drive down and across a wash and then back up. Also where the grade cuts through hills there are a lot of boulders that have fallen onto the road. Quite challenging in a few spots. Where the road ends on the Southern end I believe you can turn West and go to the Strozzi Ranch. I've attached a picture of the railroad grade at the park boundary about 2 miles from Bullfrog (Rhyolite). This shows up as a road on your map.
