Your explanation helps me understand. the trail does change from year to year. The off camber slope right at the top is also a thrill.
I was really happy to have my short wheelbase 'Zuke (locking hubs, BFG AT's, engine and transfer skid plates) on the twisting climb through the boulders below Marble bath on the Saline valley side. Traded up to a tacoma to get more ground clearance and freeway crash security.
Got my fall climbing training in Anza-Borrego on the Coyote canyon bypass in so maybe the Tacoma can make it.
The Steele pass route is a unique place in it's remoteness and beauty we travel it in respect and wonder.
