This business of calling Mengel Pass Mangle Pass has got to stop. The NPS lists Goler a open, hi clearance 4wd. Assumming the road at the mouth of Goler is not washed out, the route could be run (west to east) in your Taco in 2wd, with a little skill. In 4wd you'b be ok. Clearance is an issue in places.

The lower portion of Goler is susceptible to wash outs, but the county maintains the road periodically. You'll know right away if the road has been graded or washed out--the low range party starts immediately.

I assume the rear locker you speak of is the factory electric locker? If so, a handy tip is to remove the governor, so the unit can be engaged in above 5 mph and in 4wd H and 2wd.

My friend did Goler while WASHED OUT in a 97 taco, no rear locker. He even blew up the front differential prior to it and ran the whole thing in 2wd (with several tugs up the boulders)
