Some roads are passable by two-wheel drive but the other problem you will encounter is clearance. Many, if not most, late model cars lack the ground clearance necessary on Death Valley roads.
Last fall, I did see a Geo car drive through Titus Canyon. He was pushing gravel with the front spoiler in many areas.
Talk to a ranger before you attempt it.
