I've only been to Death Valley twice myself, and the first time, on dirt roads only, was probably 10 years ago. Was there in October, but it was a college geology field trip and we only did pavement. So I don't want to give you any info about the dirt roads there, but am sure there are others here that would be happy to. Steve S that posts a lot, knows more than I do about DV, I believe. I also hate to rate a road - because your idea of what is hard or easy may be different than mine. On the tours we tell people that their first trip is both the hardest and the easiest they have ever experienced. Just FYI, my experience is more in Owen's Valley, Mammoth, Jawbone, the El Paso's. If I don't know something, though, I usually can know someone who does.
