I don't know of any taboo about the Big Bell, as it is clearly one of the many trail options in the Chloride Cliffs area. If there is, I'm sure I'll hear about it now...
For exact directions to this and hundreds of other hard-to-get-to mines, I highly recommend Michel Digonnet's Hiking Death Valley. Hopefully you'll be able to obtain a copy before your trek.
