I think you've touched on one of the most basic functions of spending time in the desert away from people, telephones and the world of "civilization". The intense quiet and imposing force of the desert landscape, in this case the area round DV, forces me to look inward to what's important in life. Of course I have alot of good old fun, but I do alot of thinking about life. It's a grounding of sorts. Many of the things that are troubling me at the beginning of my trips seem nearly meaningless when it's time to head home.
