The only motel is the Pinnacles Inn (formerly the Desert Rose) on the main highway in the center of town -- can't miss it.

When it was the Desert Rose it was OK; I haven't stayed there since the name change. Another option is Panamint Springs Resort -- 60 miles to the north of Trona.

I think the best trails closest to Trona are:
1. Manly Pass & Fish Canyon to Panamint Valley - BLM Route P168
2. Original Nadeau Road from top of Slate Range down to Panamint Valley
3. Gold Bottom Mine, on eastern shore of Searles Lake
4. Exploring the Trona Pinnacles at length
5. And of course, the usual 101 fun things to do centered around Ballerat as a starting point.
