A CB Radio is useless in the backcountry even with a 100watt amp. I carry 2m, 440, GPS UPLINK/DOWNLINK communications with ASCII email, air craft beackon and flares. I have gotten out on FM with 10m to some folks in BISHOP - near Panamint Springs. Again, the best policy is to leave a detail trip agenda with a friend or of the park service HQ and do not deviate from it.
Anytime exploring the back country, carry enough supplies for five days.. and I mean for five days. Water, food, etc. This is not the place to take chances for you will lose.
